Day 4,5,6,7

Back in the US… We’re still adjusting. Chick-Fil-A. Chick-Fil-A. We really missed this place. It’s just so.. wholesome and chickeny, and.. awesome. Red Robin. The fries, the burgers, the greasy goodness. We also got a menu from this place because their menus are amazing. We want the menus in the cafe to be slick. Too many restaurants [...]

ASUS makes DR-900 e-reader official

We've spent all our time hearing about a DR-950, but today at CeBIT ASUS has trotted out a DR-900 as its first 9-inch ebook reader. It doesn't appear manifestly different from what we've heard and seen already, with WiFi connectivity augmented with a 3G option, and a battery life rated to last a pretty radical 10,000 pages on a single charge. The interface on show clearly invites touch interaction, and we can fill in a few gaps with what we know of the DR-950, namely a 1024 x 768 resolution on a Sipix panel, 4GB of integrated storage, 3.5mm headphone jack, and support for PDF, TXT, MP3 and ePUB files. We'll be tracking down an official price and release date shortly, as well as smudging a few fingerprints on these before the day is through.

Project Natal coming in October, says Jonathan Ross (video)

digg_url = 'http://digg.com/microsoft/Project_Natal_coming_in_October_says_Jonathan_Ross'; As unexpected sources of tech news go, UK television presenter Jonathan Ross is pretty high up there. But lo and behold, the man's had a chance to spend some quality time with Microsoft's Project Natal setup and while he's not altogether impressed with the current state of it, his note on when it's coming out is the one thing nobody has known for sure yet. "Got until October" may mean an October release, or it may imply they can work on it through October in time for an early November release (something we heard earlier), but altogether we find this both credible and logical considering the natural urge to try and get the latest gaming tech in well before the holidays. Need more convincing? Skip past the break to see the Wossmeister having a whale of a time with that balloon-blocking game that's embarrassed many a journalist already.

Symbian S^3 officially announced, previewed on video

The time has finally come for us to see Symbian's milestone shift toward finger-friendly operation in motion. Firstly, to allay any fears that it'd lack all the modern amenities, we'll note that kinetic scrolling, swiping, and pinch-to-zoom are all present and accounted for, while a "visual multi-tasking" option allows you to see the open applications in an interface not a million miles away from the Pre's card implementation. Customization is also a big deal in the S^3 UI, with multiple Home Screen pages available, accompanied by a litany of widgets you can add and manage. The media player application looks like a homage (read: copy) of Apple's Cover Flow UI, right down to the album covers flipping around to reveal the track listing. We're not complaining, we consider that a very intelligent and pleasing way to browse through music. Go check out the moving picture show after the break.

On the road

This week has been a whirlwind. I’ve been working really hard on the Web Server for our Training Center on Lubas. Thanks to the massive pile of content sent by various volunteers, I have conference videos, free training videos, ebooks and more all ready to roll. The web server was no small feat. It’s running [...]
