Motorola asks ITC to ban BlackBerry imports

It's been a hell of a year for Motorola, but one thing's stayed the same: the company still thinks RIM is ripping off some of its patents. At least that's the sense we're getting from a new complaint Moto's just filed with the International Trade Commission alleging the BlackBerry crew is infringing five patents on "early-stage innovations" that range across WiFi, app management, UI, and power management. As per usual with ITC complaints, Motorola's asking for a ban on RIM imports -- we'd imagine a cross-complaint from RIM barring Motorola imports is coming soon. Also spotted: lawyers gleefully dancing in the streets dressed only in loinclothes made from money.

OnStar and Chevy show off Android, BlackBerry, and iPhone control apps for Volt

OnStar and Chevy show off remote control app for Volt
It was announced back in December and now we've gotten a chance to play with it. More importantly, you can play with it too. Chevy and OnStar have officially launched their suite of mobile applications for the Volt, a three-pronged assault on smartphone and automotive bliss set to be available for BlackBerry, Android, and the iPhone set to deploy with the launch of the car itself sometime between the end of 2010 and 2011. Want to see it in action? Click on through to read all about it -- and see it in motion, too.

Engadget now available for Pre and Pixi: the first webOS app of 2010 (and 1000th in the Catalog)!

That's right folks. Hot on the heels of our iPhone app release (which has since skyrocketed up the App Store charts to #1 in News), the webOS version has officially landed. You'll see that the experience is shockingly, wonderfully similar to the iPhone / iPod touch version, but of course there are a couple of webOS flourishes to be found. You can download the application right from your Pre or Pixi by simply popping open the App Catalog and, you know... downloading the thing. This is the 1000th application in the Catalog -- a piece of info we feel pretty psyched about. We've got even more on the way (like BlackBerry and Android versions), so keep it tuned here, but for now... webOS fans, go get your fix!

For those viewing this on a Palm device, here's your direct link: Download Engadget for webOS

BlackBerry Curve 8530 impressions

We don't know, but it seems like RIM has enlisted a couple more CDMA engineers because the gap between new devices launching on GSM and then making their way to CDMA has been getting noticeably smaller over time. The BlackBerry Curve 8520 was launched on T-Mobile only a few short months ago, and it's already made its way to both Verizon and Sprint. It's not the same powerhouse as its older sibling the Tour, but this device packs a heck of a lot of punch into a very pocketable package. Read past the break for our extended impressions.
