This day in Engadget: Steve Jobs calls for an end to DRM

Welcome to 'This day in Engadget', where we crack open the archives and take a whimsical look back at the memories and moments of our storied past. Please join us on this trip down random access memory lane.

On February 6th, 2007 Apple CEO Steve Jobs published his "Thoughts on Music" letter. iTunes was by then the major player in online distribution, and the iPod had become the widely recognized face of portable music. DRM was controversial and pretty much universally disdained, and Jobs took the opportunity to write a letter pinpointing what he thought were the three options moving forward in the digital music distribution model. Essentially, he felt Apple (and the rest of the music loving world) had three choices: stay the course (DRM intact), move to the company's FairPlay licensing model, or envision a future which was DRM-free. Jobs made no bones about it: he and Apple hoped to "embrace" the end of DRM (under pressure from the EU, of course). Arguing that DRM hadn't stopped piracy, he conveniently called for the major labels to license their music to Apple DRM-free. On January 9th of 2009, Apple did announce that some of the music in its iTunes store would be purchasable DRM-free, though it still makes use of FairPlay for apps and video. Jobs will have to continue fighting the good fight, we suppose.

ASUS DR-570 color e-book reader gets detailed

Ready for it? We've got more (and possibly less) on the color ASUS DR-570 e-book reader that stormed through our site over the weekend riding a wave of OLED anticipation. We now know that in addition to WiFi, 3G, and 122-hour real world battery life, we can expect lightning quick 0.03 second page turns (that's about 23 times faster than the Kindle and its peers as you'd expect from a non E Ink display), 124 x 170 x 8.8-mm / 200-g footprint, 4GB of onboard storage with SDHC expansion, 512MB of SDRAM, and 1,530mAh battery. It also brings a built-in RSS reader, audio/video/Flash player, text to speech engine (presumably the Svox like the DR-950), and built-in web browser when it hits before the end of the year. There's also a hint of online video streaming support via Amazon video on demand, 3D gaming and navigation (picture Blio page turning emulation), "One stop shopping for books, video, music," and explicit support for ePub, PDF, txt, MP3, MP4, and AVI content formats.

The one thing we can't confirm is the 6-inch OLED display originally reported; our data simply calls it the "world's first 5.7-inch colorful eBook Reader" and we've heard rumors that Sipix (the panel of choice for the DR-950) is expected to ship a color electronic ink display in 2010. Doubt they'll achieve 0.03 second refreshes with that though. Stay tuned as we dig deeper.

Amazon Kindle DX with global wireless: ships January 19th for $489

Well, what do you know? Seems that Amazon's Kindle DX will indeed be offered in a Global Wireless flavor, and it'll soon be shipping to over 100 nations for the tidy sum of $489. Bezos and Company confirmed an earlier slip tonight by trumpeting the impending release of its 9.7-inch e-reader around the world, where we presume it'll work exactly like the recently released International Kindle. 'Course, you overseas folks will probably need to budget for a power converter and import duties, but you can get your pre-orders in right this moment.

Skiff Reader is largest yet, will be hitting a Sprint Store near you

Skiff Reader is largest, thinnest reader yet, hitting a Sprint Store near you
Amazon's Kindle DX may be big, but it's not the biggest any more. The Skiff Reader is here to take that crown -- despite being a mere quarter inch thick. It packs a 1600 x 1200 11.5-inch touchscreen (finger and stylus) that, as you can see from the above screenshot, should do much better justice to magazine and newspaper layouts than we've yet seen from an e-ink-based reader. That's exactly the sort of advance Hearst was promising when it first mentioned the device last month. Skiff includes 4GB of on-board storage (just over 3GB is available for content) with SD card expansion, and there's a 3.5mm headphone jack for tunes and, hopefully, text-to-speech. Content can be side-loaded over a mini USB jack or delivered via WiFi but, more importantly, 3G is also on offer thanks to Sprint, who will also dedicate some space in its retail stores to sell the thing when it launches sometime this year. Price? That we don't know.

Online Marketing And The Politics – What Is The Connection?

Admittedly, many people consider that online marketing has nothing to do with the politics. Actually, not really, besides, they are hugely mistaken, as for the ordinary marketer making money on forthcoming elections is not a complex task. It means that in case you play right according to all rules next time you can get a car as a payment and incentive of your work. Remarkably, the aim of this article is to show how to get regular big income through elections. The most important thing you have to realize is to understand that the politics is the issues of high interest and most discussed today. It is not a secret that everyone has own opinion on that or this debatable question concerning elections. Indeed, the forum I lately have visited strictly bans any kind of political discussion and debates. Actually, the point is there is no part of our every day life which is not related to the politics, considering our right for honest living.br /

So, look here, how do we get the share from the next elections? Well, to understand the system of its functioning you have to visit Google search engine and type the following “how to vote?” and look through all listings. If you are careful and look at the side of right hand just in the direction of the paid ads, you will notice the interesting information for your website. The next thing you have to do is to start your campaign for the related keywords. I am almost sure that it is going to be quiet cheap, as it is not competitive niche at all because many people do not know whether there is any money in this field. And here they are hugely mistaken.br /
br /
To provide yourself with success, you can use many books that are written on this topic in Amazon and Noble. All you need to do at this very stage is to involve yourself in an affiliate account and settle some of the product connected with the topic under your article. Here there is a question: what sort of article? The first article you will write on how to vote in the elections. Remarkably, there is lot of info on this subject. You are free to offer you personal view on the elections and each candidate and on the political climate in general. Be prepared to the situation when you become lots of opinion on the burning issues offered for your discussion. Because of the lack of competition, you will notice that your blog will get the top positions at any search. Just here you stop your PPC campaign, as there is no need for it anymore. The question of how money you will manage to get is totally depends on your creativity. You might probably create the digital product on the information gathered on topic of elections. Surely, your business will be money-making!!!br /

In case your web site demands a href=http://www.freetrafficsystem.com target=_blankfree traffic/a – then you have to check out this a href=http://www.freetrafficsystem.com target=_blankweb traffic/a program. It is the place where many site owners get their targeted traffic from.br /
br /
It is impossible today to create any a href=http://www.freetrafficsystem.com target=_blankinternet marketing/a campaign for your products or servicesbr /
online, without planning the creating of traffic from search engines.
